We have just added new units to our WISE curriculum library that aim to strengthen science understanding, build student agency, and promote racial equity. We worked with partner teachers to customize existing WISE units by incorporating Open Educational Resources (OERs) with the potential to support anti-racism. Driven by our teachers’ desire to better address issues of racial justice in their science classrooms, these units aim to promote an integrated understanding of science while developing commitments to oppose racism and promote equity.
The first three units in this series are now available. They are:
- Chemical Reactions, Asthma, and Alternative Fuels: Making a Change
- COVID-19, Data Science, and Equity
- Global Climate Change and Urban Heat Islands
You can access them by going to the WISE homepage and scrolling down to “Curriculum Offerings” or signing in to your WISE teacher account and viewing the Unit Library. The new units are listed under the Science + Social Justice category.
