Exciting new work: Detecting student ideas

The WISE group has embarked on an exciting new project: Natural Language Processing Technologies to Inform Practices in Science (NLP-TIPS). Funded by the National Science Foundation and in partnership with ETS, NLP-TIPS uses natural language processing AI technology to detect the rich ideas that students develop during everyday experience. Using the ideas detected in student responses, NLP-TIPS designs adaptive, interactive guidance that prompts students to reconsider their own ideas and pursue deeper understanding.
